Abstract

The process of wound healing is intricate and tightly controlled, involving a number of different cellular and molecular processes. Numerous cellular functions, especially those related to wound healing, depend critically on calcium ions (Ca²⁺). Ca²⁺ channels are proteins involved in signal transduction and communication inside cells that allow calcium ions to pass through cell membranes. Key Ca²⁺ channel types involved in wound repair are described in this review.
