Abstract
The precise and consistent definitions of branching ratios and partial widths of unstable particles have been notoriously difficult and elusive. This is because unstable particles are not asymptotic states and, consequently, they lie somewhat outside the traditional formulation of quantum field theory. A very simple definition is presented and demonstrated in the Z0-boson case.
