Abstract
The NMe2 substituent in CH3C≡CCH2NMe2 facilitates oxidative addition to RU3(CO)12 to give the isomeric allenyl cluster HRU3(CO)9(MeCCCHNMe2) and allylic cluster HRu3 (CO)g (MeCCHCNMe2). The barrier to rotation about the internal ligand CNMe2 bond is sensitive to the nature of L in HRu3(CO)8L(MeCCHCNMe2), even though L is remote from this bond, and also to protonation of the cluster. Lower barriers are associated with increased electronavailability on the cluster.
