Abstract

The paper discusses problems in the interpretation of the Trojan Women of Euripides, with special reference to the fist stasimon and to the interplay of poetics and ethnic identity in the theme of Phrygian music. It also discusses the presentation of Phrygian music in dithyramb and the connections between dithyramb and tragedy.
