Abstract

Alon C is shown to be a δ-Al₂O₃ phase. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) shows that the powder contains hexagonal particles of very regular shape. (110) faces are largely dominant. IR spectra of adsorbed CO and computer-generated models suggest that tricoordinated Al³⁺ ions are exposed at the surface.
