Abstract
The stabilization of carbenium ions by an adjacent organotransition metal moiety has been evaluated using the classical Deno's method as well as a new procedure based on DCI-MS spectrometry. The ability of transition metal clusters to enhance the stability of a proximate carbocationic center in 17α-alkynylestradiol-[OM] derivatives {[OM] = CO2(CO)6; CO2(CO)4(dppm); Mo2Cp2(CO)4; M3(CO)10, M = Ru, Os; HRu3(CO)9} has been related to their capacity to inactivate the estrogen receptor (affinity marker properties).
