Abstract
Periodic polysynthetic twins (PPT) of n-C34H70 and n-C36H74 were obtained by evaporating solutions of n-heptane in the range 25-50δ C; their occurrence was revealed by interlaced spiral patterns observed on their growth micromorphology. PPT often occur at the grain boundary between flat crystallites which appear to be rotated on 001 planes; the original composition plane of these twins may change during growth. The growth mechanism is related to the formation of screw dislocations at the grain boundary between two twinned crystallites.
