Abstract
The essay means to analyse the configuration of the connection between metaphysics and hermeneutics in their relationship to religion in the different periods of Italo Mancini’s thought. This thought is connoted in an initial period by the centrality of “neoclassical” metaphysics and by the outlining of the relationship with the transcendent being in the light of an exclusively rational meditation. In the second period the religion is put in the centre of the reflection and the metaphysical rational mediation is connected in a relationship of foundation with the theme of the historical revelation and that of its hermeneutical comprehension. In the third period the metaphysics takes on a critical function towards religious revelation which is interpreted with reference to its dimension of historical liberation. The final period is formed by a theo-logic and by a doxology of oxymoron and of “double thoughts” and by a subtended interpretation of the religious symbols according to a conception of philosophy understood as an hermeneutics of Chrystianity which doesn’t give up the relationship with the metaphysics of transcendence.
