Abstract
The critical note investigates the ontology of the image proposed by Claudio Ciancio in his latest book. First of all, the historical reconstruction carried out around the theme of the image is examined in reference, among other things, to the questions of man as an image of God, to idolatry and its rejection, to the incarnation of Christ and to the Trinity. The main thematic nuclei of this theoretical proposal are then investigated and with regard to that the creation as an “imaginary reality” and as an ontological increase is analyzed, as well as the revealing images – in relation to the contrast or intensification underlying the nexus between the finite and the infinite – and, more generally, the relationship between the image and the conception of the principle as freedom. Finally, in a critical way, the relation between the absolute and its ontological increase is discussed, as well as the relationship between the paradox – underlying the ontology of the image – and the notion of analogy, as well as the nexus of identity and difference existing between infinite freedom and finite freedom.
