Abstract
[Machine translation] The article focuses on the relationship between the monastery and the lay world outside, which comes into contact with the former in multiple forms, among which the complex field of reception represents a field of investigation of primary interest. The contribution investigates the different ways in which monastic communities ensure the reception of travelers, pilgrims, the poor, and situations known through written sources and archeology are examined. The focus is in particular on reception spaces on the edge of the monastic space, with an evaluation also of solutions for welcoming women in male monasteries.
