Abstract
In Democrazia sfigurata (UBE, 2014) Nadia Urbinati grounds democratic legitimacy in its diarchic structure according to which will and opinion influence each other without merging. By focusing her attention on the critical formation of political judgements Urbinati identifies three disfigurement of the democratic ideal (unpolitical democracy, populism and politics of passivity). While populism and politics of passivity clearly disfigures democracy I would like to raise some concerns regarding the idea that epistemic accounts of democracy convey unpolitical version of the democratic ideal.
