Abstract
[Machine translation] Although the Metamorphoses are conceived by Ovid as a perpetuum carmen that traces the history of the world from its origins to Augustus through the exposition of variously linked myths of transformation, the French translations produced from the 14th century onwards propose in an almost systematic way a fragmentation of the text, which is reduced to a collection of autonomous narrative units. This article studies the dynamics of emergence, diffusion and crystallization of this practice, which finds its roots in the fourteenth century Ovide moralisé and which, through the first printed editions of the reissues of Ovide Moralisé himself, the rewrites in illustrated verses of the sixteenth century and the commented prose translations of the seventeenth century, ends up establishing itself in French publishing practices to the present day.
