Abstract
[Machine translation] How successful Franz Kafka is with the general public 100 years after his death is shown not least by the fact that his angular face and slim figure have become a kind of pop icon and play a role not only in German-speaking countries, for example in film, visual art and merchandising. The comic has also focused on the life and work of the author. , Kafka's drawings form a first bridge between word and image, which are taken up and developed by graphic novel authors. Using the “Judgment” by Moritz Stetter (Knesebeck, 2015) as an example, it is shown how a literary text can be translated into the language of the so-called 'Ninth Art. ' The necessary selection and interpretation processes are presented at the text and image level, which create a new, intermedial work from Kafka's story.
