Abstract
The antiserotoninergic action of Divascan® was tested "in vitro" and "in vivo" The drug was able to counteract serotonin-induced contractions of rat stomach strips, in a reversible and dose-dependent manner, but not histamine or acetylcholine-induced contractions of the guines pig iteum. "In vivo" the drug depressed the diurnal and nocturnal peaks of prolactin (Prl) (4 pm - 12 pm). The "in vitro" and "in vivo" results suggest that Divascan® has a significant antagonistic activity on only serotonin-induced rat stomach contractions and thus an inhibitory action on the central 5-HT neurons by abolishing the circadian ciclicity of Plasma Prl levels.
