Abstract

The transition to a more sustainable and resilient economy requires the consideration of environmental and social welfare. The Circular Economy (CE) is essential for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing resource loop closure for economic, social, and environmental benefits. CE is also a key concept in the development of renewable energy. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of the current literature on renewable energy, CE, and sustainable strategies. The review focuses on the application of CE indicators in the renewable energy sector, with a focus on sustainability and sustainable development. In particular, this paper examines the current practices, regulations, opportunities, and challenges, aiming to bridge the gap in measuring circularity in renewable energy development. The study outcomes concerning the correlation between renewable energy consumption, managerial decision-making factors, policy frameworks, and innovation capabilities in sustainability highlight the critical significance of a nation's institutional factor. The reviewed articles provide valuable insights into renewable energy, CE, and sustainable strategies. They emphasize the need for tailored policies, regulatory support, and collaboration among stakeholders to achieve a successful transition to renewable energy systems while considering environmental, economic, and social impacts.
