Abstract
In this paper we describe the use of state-of-the-art Semantic Web technology in the context of a research project aimed at developing enhanced social network applications for mobile devices and desktop/laptop, in the field of gastronomy. In such applications, users can interact with objects and actors of the field and achieve an enhanced experience of situations, places, territories and persons, by accessing information about them, recording interaction with them and providing annotations and comments. In particular, we describe the use of OWL 2 ontologies in a knowledge server for the project applications, with some details on the design and representation of ontologies as well as how reasoning and queries on the knowledge base are used to provide information to the applications. Development and experimentation of the applications is ongoing.
