Abstract
Strong evidence supports the role of autoimmunity in the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP). This chapter focuses on several aspects of CIDP including genetic factors, disease development, factors associated with progression and the role of antecedent infections. Thereafter, an analysis of the complex interactions between cellular and humoral immune responses in its pathogenesis is provided. This is followed by a discussion of potential biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Finally, this chapter discusses the current and potential treatments for CIDP.
