Abstract

The effect of 16 linear and branched alcohols-from C4 to C8—at a concentration corresponding to their water solubility, on the critical micellar concentration (CMC) of sodium monohexylphosphate was studied. Quantitative relationships of the obtained CMC with physicochemical properties and structural descriptors of the alcohols were examined. The regression analyses indicate that the CMCs are significantly related (r = 0.992) to hydrocarbon surface area and to steric substituent parameters (STERIMOL) of the alcohols, and are slightly dependent on the hydroxyl surface area.
