Bisfosfonati e osteonecrosi dei mascellari: protocolli clinici per igienisti dentali

Objectives To propose to the dental hygienists some protocols in relationship to type, way and duration of administration of bisphosphonates, for the prevention and the treatment of the osteonecrosis of the jaws. Materials By the revision of the scientific literature and our clinical experience we point out the protocols that we effect in sinergism with our colleagues hematologists, oncologists, rheumatologists and physiatrics. Results Diminution of the cases got to our observation. Conclusions The primary prevention, developed by the Dental Hygienists, through the education and the motivation to an accurate domiciliary oral hygiene to prevent the onset of dental and periodontal diseases, and this one secondary, performing the professional oral hygiene and the periodic monitoring of the oral health in the patient to risk, is fundamental to avoid these lesions.
