Abstract
The synthesis of integral water-dispersible oxidized single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT) structures, that have been massively oxygenated was investigated. The synthesis was performed in a Schlenk tube, by suspending SWNT in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and stirring them under anaerobic conditions in the presence of liquid metal Na/K alkali-alloy. The mixture was then further stirred under full aerobic atmosphere for 120 minutes. The observation of the SWNT frames renders this method for annealing in order to achieve functionalized and biocompatible nanostructures.
