Vivere la periferia urbana: visioni e percezioni dei residenti di Tor Pignattara e del Trullo

The contemporary analysis of urban peripheries is linked to the more general reflection on some important transformations and problems affecting contemporary societies: the processes of de- and re-territorialization, the polycentrism of urban development, the new forms of social exclusion and their spatial dimension, the forms of resilience activated, especially on a local scale, by various social actors in reaction to the emptying of welfare. In this sense, urban suburbs appear as ambivalent social and spatial environments that, while on the one hand are characterized by the relevance of social exclusion, old and new forms of poverty, and environmental and cultural deterioration, on the other hand often see the activation of relational opportunities and resources that facilitate the development of social innovation practices to face these challenges and problems (Ferrarotti and Macioti 2009; In 2016)., Within this conceptual and theoretical framework, the proposed paper aims to present the results emerging from research, based on visual and ethnographic methodology, in progress in the Roman suburbs of Trullo and Tor Pignattara. In particular, the report intends to focus on how the different types of inhabitants in the two territories analyzed perceive the urban landscape, the main problems and conflicts present in the territory, the innovation and redevelopment initiatives and the various actors, institutional and not, involved, and on how these perceptions are projected into the way in which urban space is experienced in everyday life.
