Abstract

The vinylogous aldol reactions provides access to a range of structurally diverse targets but has long remained a marginally explored area of organic synthesis. However, its applications have burgeoned in the past few years. Examples are given to demonstrate that vinylogous dienolates and their synthons have a sumptuos aldol chemistry.
