Abstract
Model tests useful in identifying new antiepileptic drugs are reviewed (screening tests, genetic models and models for partial seizures). Particular emphasis is reserved to the iron model of focal epilepsy and to kindling. These models are relevant to human posttraumatic and temporal lobe epilepsy and are recommended when testing of both the anticonvulsant and the antiepileptogenic properties of potential new drugs is needed.
