Abstract

This chapter summarizes the general aspects of facing an upper limb trauma. This updated information contains only basic principles, and it will be useful to surgeons dealing with hand and upper limb trauma in reviewing all the steps for the treatment of these often complex lesions, referring to more detailed papers or books for a deeper understanding of these problems. The diagnosis and treatment of the single traumatized tissues (skin, tendons, nerves, bones) will be followed by the approach to complex lesions up to mangled upper limbs and amputations to be treated with the concepts of “orthoplastic surgery.”
