Abstract

An account is given of the aetiopathogenetic factors held to be responsible for the onset of deformities of the limbs, such as progenetic (and genetic) and metagenetic (infective, nutritive, physical, chemical, iatrogenic, endocrinological and metabolic, mechanical) factors. Reference is also made to Peters and van Spee's theory of human amniogenesis and Rizzati's views on aschizamnion. A clinical case of multiple deformities associated with internal deformities in a neonate is presented. The first are attributed to an aschizamnic alteration, the second to a probably viral aetiopathogenesis.
