Sociologia dei media e studi politici sulle migrazioni: tre direzioni per un dialogo

[Machine translation] This essay starts from the observation of the need for greater dialogue between media sociology and political studies on migration. In fact, disciplinary fences have inhibited the production of innovative studies, able to bring together methods and concepts from the two disciplines to produce new research questions. Looking at a group of interesting recent works, the above need is supported by specific research proposals, regarding: a) studies on politicization in terms of production and narrative-making, b) the textual analysis of discourses and frames of migrations and, c) the study of opinion and framing effects. The following topics will be addressed: the possible integration between studies on the politicization of migration and news-making; the discourse of civic integration and its importance to complete the framework of the main media frames of migration (beyond the threat-victim dichotomy); the role of the imaginary created by journalism as a fundamental mediator of the effects of politicization on public opinion.
