Abstract

[Machine translation] Catalogue of the exhibition “Writing with light. The Langa and the Roero by Antonio Adriano”, Antonio Adriano was born in Magliano Alfieri in 1944 to a peasant family. His choice of life was to work in the fields, the one that belonged to the rut of peasant ethics and tradition. In a peasant world affected, between the 1950s and the Seventies, by profound and radical transformations, he became aware of the need to safeguard the culture of tradition, thus starting an intense ethnographic collection activity, from the objects of material culture to popular songs. In this work he is not alone: many young people from his community, with him, create the Magliano Alfieri Spontaneo Group, one of the most original Italian experiences of recovering tradition. His multifaceted activity also materialized in an extraordinary photographic archive, thousands of shots that reflect the plurality of his ethnoanthropological interests: peasant work, the rural landscape, the party. The exhibition Writing with Light. Antonio Adriano's La Langa e il Roero aims to be a contribution to the knowledge of the valuable research work carried out by this original figure of farmer-intellectual, who died prematurely in 2006.
