Abstract

[Machine translation] The contribution indicates general lines that allow us to understand the stylistic, thematic and ideological evolution of narrative production in the United States in parallel with the intensification of the neoliberal vision of capitalism that characterized its policies since the late Seventies. This is a very partial and far from exhaustive synthesis, which does not account for all the literary phenomena and cultural history of the United States and the great differences between each of them. The review does not focus on the profiles of some of the great American writers of the 20th century, such as Philip Roth and Cormac McCarthy,, and on some subgenres of the novel, such as the narrative of Vietnam or September 11, which would require a speech in their own right, much deeper and more detailed. This review closes some food for thought on a novel from the turn of the millennium that is in many ways exemplary of the trends discussed in the chapter. The objective is to give an example of the way in which narrative interacts with the cultural, historical and political horizon to which it refers and which, in turn, helps to define. This is the novel Parable of the Sower by the African-American writer Octavia Butler, published in 1993 but relaunched about twenty years later.
