Abstract
Studying the history of classical scholarship, in connection with the cultural and political background of each historical period, has been for a long time an important field of research. The contributions in the volume edited by Angelo Giavatto and Federico Santangelo, Between Rhetoric and Classical Scholarship. The Style of Italian Classicists in the Twentieth Century, someway update this tradition, introducing the attention to the ways of communication. The word «style» should mean the choice among the options that the language offers the scholar in written communication. In this volume however it takes on a broader meaning and provides the opportunity for an extensive reconstruction of the intellectual activity of five distinguished Italian classicists, in the fields of ancient history, philosophy, literature and philology.
