Abstract
[Machine translation] The volume wants to return the story of the topos in which the solitary sparrow of Leopardi's famous song is placed, through the recognition and examination of the poems that prelude to, that poetic and spiritual icon, and of some significant twentieth-century texts that collect its legacy. The precedents of Leopardian singing, so far reported by scholars and commentators rather hastily, have not only increased quantitatively (the volume examines more than sixty compositions, some of which have so far been ignored) but evaluated within an overall framework, which places Leopardi at the center, also through an examination of the presence of birds in the author's other writings and an in-depth analysis of the Versions of the Psalms in the Recanati library. In this way, the volume not only develops an analysis (intertextual and interdiscursive) of a poetic motif of considerable luck, but allows a reinterpretation of Leopardian singing in its lively dialogue with a very rich and eventful tradition.
