Abstract
The integration of case-based reasoning (CBR) and model-based reasoning (MBR) in the context of diagnostic problem solving is discussed. Different facets that influence the entire performance of a multi-modal reasoning system were also discussed. It was shown that both the MBR and CBR approaches suffer from computational intractability. It was suggested that a careful combination of the two approaches can be used to reduce the computational costs.
