Abstract
[Machine translation] The essay critically reviews the studies on the so-called spontaneity of Teresian prose and demonstrates how the very particular style of the saint of Ávila responds to an expressive urgency (which makes the spiritual plane and that of everyday life dialogue) and is based on different, combined and revitalized modes of expression. We analyze different tracks, mainly excerpted from “Vida”, comparing possible stylistic models. Teresa's syntagmatic dexterity is in fact forged on the habit of reading with certain textual typologies, such as the 'Libros de Caballeria' (which influence far beyond the sporadic thematic coincidences observed by scholars), sermons, Augustinian 'Confessions', hagiographies, books on spirituality, etc. It is also based on an imitative writing exercise, which brilliantly combines the stylistic elements of the rich and varied mosaic offered by the textual genres that made up Teresa's mental library.
