Liberalismo e nazionalismo nell'euroscetticismo tedesco: dalle origini a oggi

Translated title of the contribution: [Machine translation] Liberalism and nationalism in German Euroscepticism: from its origins to today

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter › peer-review

Abstract

[Machine translation] The contribution traces the evolution of Euroscepticism in the political-ideal debate of post-World War II Germany, with particular regard to liberal intellectual currents, while highlighting the progressive re-emergence of nationalist motives, clearly visible especially in the first half of the 21st century. With this in mind, the essay first focuses on the figure of Ludwig Erhard, a critical voice in the phase of Germany's enthusiastic accession to the first European communities. Secondly, the focus shifts to the close discussion that accompanied the founding of the EU and the Eurozone, with the painful abandonment of the national currency. Finally, the parable of Alternative fuer Deutschland is analyzed, a party born in the complex season of the sovereign debt crisis and characterized, especially in its first years of life, by a peculiar mix of economic liberalism and political nationalism.
