Legal file and profit sharing in a peer to peer network

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

Despite to their large success, file sharing and peer to peer systems are used mainly for illegal actions, as violations of the author's copyright. Many commercial proposals have been made, but at the present time, there is a lack of an inherently legal file sharing tool which is still attractive as well as its many opponents. This paper proposes a protocol which connects authors and customers in a micro-payment scheme, where the selling rights are transferred from peer to peer. When the file is bought, accountability is delegated, allowing the author to be paid, and the normal user to be slightly refunded.
