Words, Gestures and Stories of Piedmontese Agriculture” was created by the Piedmont Region - Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the “Granaries of Memory” Laboratory of the University of Gastronomic Sciences. The research documents, through the collection of representative testimonies, the territorial, cultural and entrepreneurial complexity and diversification of the Piedmontese agricultural system. The method that led to the identification of the subjects to be interviewed, based on the ethnographic survey and sampling experience gained over the years by the “Granaries of Memory” Laboratory, has a geographical starting point represented by the 15 areas into which the Piedmontese regional territory has been divided within the Regional Landscape Plan. For each area, at least two business realities were therefore investigated, taking care to represent a provincial structure and a coverage of the different production chains of the Piedmontese agricultural sector. Subsequently, work was carried out to identify subjects who, on the one hand, have specific oral and gestural knowledge in the agricultural field, and on the other with a diversified biographical and experiential experience: the result is a scenario in which companies of centuries-old and centuries-old tradition coexist alongside new forms of entrepreneurship, often carried out with originality and creativity by “new farmers”, people who, through life experiences and work paths, have approached the agricultural world not already out of continuity with family commitment but by choice. The testimonies collected took the form of 35 video interviews lasting 3-5 minutes that are available on the Piedmont Region portal “Piemonte Agri Quality”, while the “Granaries of Memory” portal are archived the full interviews.
