Abstract
[Machine translation] The volume illustrates the application of the model of public defense of the indigent throughout medieval and modern history, with specific attention to the case of the Savoy States, but with diachronic and synchronous references also to other experiences; highlights the consequences of its repeal in 1865 by the Kingdom of Italy and the numerous arguments later adduced to plead its reintroduction; notes the parallels found between this historical experience and the contemporary realities in which the model in question is still applied, such as that American or Brazilian.
