Abstract
[Machine translation] This essay analyses the Italian translation of fray Juan de Bonilla’s Breve tratado donde se declara cuán necesaria sea la paz del alma y cómo se pueda alcanzar, provided by Giulio Zanchini da Castiglionchio in 1597. To this end, considering the wealth of surviving editions of Breve tratado, I identify – through the collatio between such Italianization and the textual tradition of the Castilian treatise – the likely source text handled by the Italian translator. I then examine both Zanchini’s modus traducendi and the corrections and mistakes that he introduced in the target text.
