Abstract
[Machine translation] Subjected to the growing competitive pressures produced by the dynamics of international markets and exacerbated by the strategic and structural weaknesses intrinsic to the system, the Italian rice sector seems to be going through a time of intense difficulty and important forces for change, feeling the need to abandon the now consolidated competitive structures in search of a new model capable of revitalizing the performance of operators, which at the same time ensures greater economic, social and environmental sustainability for the entire development strategy. Struggling with a context made increasingly difficult by the increase in competition following the liberalization of trade and the strengthening of international supply, by the progressive loss of direct support linked to community policies, by the tightening of environmental and social legislation, by an economic climate now seriously dominated by uncertainty, by the change in lifestyles and consumption, by the continuous fluctuations of prices on the markets and the concomitant increase in the cost of factors, rice cultivation is experienced by some years of increasing margin compression, favored by the persistence of an imbalance in relations with companies downstream of the supply chain, questioning their future, the conditions that could ensure their survival and the paths to take to recover profitability and efficiency.
