Abstract

[Machine translation] This book was created with two specific purposes. First of all, from the desire to analyze the cinema of Ken Loach, an extraordinary British director among the most loved and awarded European filmmakers. There are many studies dedicated to him, and with this volume we do not want to propose a biographical essay that is exhaustive and complete in every detail on his life and his work. Instead, he wants to emphasize the political value of his cinema, the ethical rigor of his artistic work and the coherence of his entire production, which covers a period of sixty years and includes unforgettable masterpieces and films that always make us reflect, discuss, and take a stand. , Secondly, this text proposes the original choice of bringing into dialogue two people with a very diverse professional and human path, merging different sensitivities and working methods, but capable of merging in a balanced and — this is our hope — stimulating for the reader. Barberis, historian of political thought, is the author of the introductory essay, dedicated to the current political crisis and to the transformations of contemporary society, which play a decisive role in Loach's cinematography. Lasagna, psychologist and film critic, is the author of the afterword, which focuses attention on the relationship between the director of Nuneaton and other great authors of European cinema, who have dealt with similar issues. The other chapters, which are to be understood (and can be read) as separate essays, but in any case closely related to each other, are the result of the dialogue and the common work of the two authors.
