Abstract

[Machine translation] Today overshadowed by the works of the great authors of spiritual prose of the 16th and 17th centuries, the Brief Treatise stating how necessary peace of the soul is and how it can be achieved by Fray Juan de Bonilla enjoyed a remarkable editorial diffusion during the Golden Age and until the mid-18th century and, also, a discreet fortune within contemporary Spanish and European mysticism., Taking advantage of the fruitful dialogue between Neolachmannian textual criticism and the philology of the printed text, this edition is the result of the collation of almost all the surviving copies of the thirty-two old editions that transmit the work of Fray Bonilla. In addition to reconstructing its textual history, the introductory study and the explanatory notes aim to contextualize the writing of the booklet within the framework of auricular mystic-ascetic literature.
