Immigrazione e territorio a Novara: dall’accoglienza alla stabilizzazione abitativa

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

[Machine translation] The migratory phenomenon is one of the main causes of changes in the socio-territorial balances of many Italian urban contexts. Ethnic networks and the process of stabilizing foreigners have led to a strong growth in their numbers, not only in large metropolitan areas, but also in small and medium-sized cities. After a brief introduction to migration dynamics in Novara, the research focuses on the social effects of migrants' transition from precarious situations (first or second reception centers) into more stable housing structures (social housing, rental housing in peripheral neighborhoods, etc.) and how their presence has led to the articulation of new realities. The contribution analyzes, in qualitative (analysis of the literature on the subject of migration) and quantitative terms, the main changes that some Novara neighborhoods, with strong non-EU immigration (in particular Sant'Agabio), have been facing in recent years. The contribution addresses an important topic and can represent a useful analysis tool for implementing dialogue on the housing situation of the immigrant population.
