Abstract
[Machine translation] The contribution intends to examine Giambattista Vico's work De rebus gestis, Antonj Caraphaei (Felice Mosca, Naples 1716), biography of Antonio Carafa (1642-, 1693), marshal in the service of Leopold I of Habsburg, engaged in the Seventies, and eighty of the century fighting against the Turks in the eastern part of the empire. Nei, Battlefields between Austria, Hungary, Transylvania, Croatia, the fight with the Turks, transforms into a “just war” between Christians and Muslims, and, at the same time, into clashes, Catholics and Protestants face each other with the Hungarian rebel Imre Thököly. In the context of the rhetorical constraints typical of the biographical genre, the author does not fail to reflect on the presence of foreigners within and on the borders of Europe, to describe their movements and behaviors and to raise questions about the link between threats from foreigners and reason of state. As witnessed by Vico himself in his Life Written by Himself (1723-1731), the reading of Ugo Grozio's De jure belli ac pacis helped him prepare his biography, confirming the political values that run through it, also supported by obvious tacitian motives, extremely influential in European political discourse between the 17th and 18th centuries./Bilder des Fremdes in De rebus gestis Antonj Caraphaei.
