Abstract

[Machine translation] “The Short Century of Italian Communism”, edited by Guglielmo Pellerino, offers a clear and critical reconstruction of the history of the PCI from its origins to its dissolution. Through the contributions of historians and scholars of different generations, the volume traces the great turning points of Italian communism: from the lessons of Gramsci and Bordiga, to the anti-fascist underground, from Togliatti's “new party” to the Berlinguer season and the turning point of Bolognina. The PCI emerges not only as a political force, but as a collective cultural project capable of profoundly affecting twentieth-century Italian society. With an informative but rigorous approach, the book intertwines political events, biographies, ideological conflicts and social transformations, restoring complexity to an often simplified story. A work also designed for the new generations, which invites us to question the legacy of Italian communism and the current value of its experience. Texts by Francesca Chiarotto, Angelo D'Orsi, Alexander Höbel, Guido Liguori, Ottavia Dal Maso, Paolo Desogus, Michelangela Di Giacomo and Guglielmo Pellerino.
