Abstract

[Machine translation] The essay reconstructs the story of the Christian martyrdom of Nagasaki on February 5, 1597, retracing the biographical profiles of the first 3 Japanese martyrs of the Society of Jesus. Through the first narratives of the story, in particular focusing on the work Triumphus Iesu Christi crucifixi (1608) by the Jesuit Bartolomeo Ricci, some aspects emerge of the elaboration of a martyrological imaginary inserted within the cultural and ideological program of the leaders of the order during the troubled era of Claudio Acquaviva's generalate.
