Abstract
[Machine translation] In 1987, the Council of Europe created the “Cultural Itineraries” program as a means for the promotion, protection and enhancement of heritage (with a view to sustainable development), to enrich citizens with the awareness that the cultural heritage of various European countries is an important opportunity for cultural and economic development (Council of Europe, 2011). Through a qualitative analysis of the literature on issues related to heritage, the geography of tourism and the economic geography, the contribution analyzes the great itineraries that cross the Mediterranean, stressing their importance as means of communication, cultural exchange and opportunities for participatory tourist experiences that become a “living through” spaces and time.
