Abstract

Preconcentratlon and recovery of aluminum traces at the parts-per-billlon level are evaluated In synthetic and natural aqueous samples. The method Is based on complex formation of AI(III) with 1,2-dihydroxy-3,5-benzenedlsulfonlc acid. A macroporous anion exchange resin is then employed for retention of the complex through Its sulfonato anionic groups. The removal of matrix effect and the Interaction of surfactants, organic sequestring agents, and ionic species are discussed. Determinations In real samples such as water of the Po River and hemodialysis fluids show a 99.2 ± 2.1% recovery at 1.2S ppb aluminum concentrations.
