Abstract
La hermosura de Angélica, emblematic work of the young Lope de Vega, is characterized by various contaminations and generic hibridism. In fact, it represents the synthesis and original imbrication of the two narrative models of the early modernity, heirs of the European imaginative tradition: on one hand, the epic as chivalrous deeds, and on the other hand the idealistic novel of love argument, both Byzantine and pastoral. Even those two literary patrons are contaminated with a further epic model: the one of the American conquest. Finally, many poetic passages present features proceeding from the Romancero and are in some way theatrical.
