Abstract

The ratio between caloric supply (kcal/kg/die) and daily elimination of nitrogen (N out: g/kg/die) was evaluated on two groups of polytraumatized patients undergoing total parenteral nutrition. The trend of the regression curves of the 2 groups shows that the administration of fructose-1,6-diphosphate favors the reduction of nitrogen loss. The effect seems due to a better utilization of the infused glucose.
