The contribution aims to highlight some aspects of the first phase of Colombano Chiaveroti's life, that of studies and monastic life that preceded the period of the episcopate, and in particular the role of 'mediator' he played, between the Alpine communities of the Lanzo Valleys, during the years of French domination: an experience of contact with the Piedmontese rural world that proved valuable in the subsequent period of episcopate in Ivrea and Turin.
