The essays explore the parish church of Volvera through a wide perspective of cognitive approaches, which offer the reader, on the one hand, a historical-artistic reading of the church, on the other hand, they present some important ceremonial, symbolic and immaterial anthropological traits that over the centuries have been stratified around the parish church. A work carried out mainly through the consultation of documents kept in the parish and municipal archives, with the addition of data retrieved from oral sources. To understand more fully the role and function that the most important church in the town and its bell tower played within the community, it is also necessary to consider that the church and the bell tower are the point of contact between the Parish and the Municipality, between liturgical time and profane time. The essays collected here constitute a sure point of reference from which to conduct subsequent investigations, both because they incisively outline the events that led to the construction of the church and to the modifications and restorations that have followed one another over the centuries, and because they show the significant immaterial dimension of some festivals of the liturgical calendar and also of the language of bells. The volume, without pretending to be exhaustive, is also intended to be a subsidy to accompany and integrate the teaching activity aimed at understanding the territory which, as we know, finds the attention not only of the school world but of a variety of subjects interested in learning more about the history of the country. Finally, scrolling through the pages, the reader will find a large photographic apparatus that provides interesting information and interpretations of the reality under investigation. Some of the images also have the merit of visually narrating the changes and profound transformations that the community of Volvera experienced since the mid-twentieth century.
